The main airport on Ibiza is Aeroport d'Eivissa, a busy international hub for long and short-haul flights from all over Europe. The airport is about 10 kms south west of Ibiza town, giving easy access to the town as well as the main roads heading north and west towards San Antonio. The main concentration of these is around Ibiza town and in the north, near Es Canar. The big nightclubs are mainly around Ibiza and on the west coast, near Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Driving in Ibiza

  • Priority rules: As a general rule you give way to the right at intersections. On a roundabout, cars already on the roundabout have priority.
  • Speed limits are slightly lower than at home, so watch out for signs.
  • Seatbelts must be worn both in the front and back seats. Children who are shorter than 135 cm (4 feet, 5 inches) must use an approved child seat or harness. If you need one, you can reserve and pay for your child car seat when you are booking your hire car.
  • It's illegal to use a mobile phone when driving, unless you have a hands free system.
  • Though its a small island, it can get busy in summer, especially in the towns.

 

Parking

If you park on blue or dotted green lines, you must get a ticket from the machine. Green is generally for residents, but can be used by visitors, as long as they pay and display. Parking is usually free on Sundays and holidays, but check the machine as this varies by town and area.

Sant Antoni contains the famous Egg of Colombus modernist monument. The surrounding countryside and coastal routes are also regarded as a beautiful drive. In particular, the Benirràs Bay is well worth seeing. The coastline there forms one of the most important parts of the Ibiza UNESCO world heritage landscape. Horseback riding is also a popular activity in the highlands of Ibiza, only a short drive from the city.

Parking And Traffic Information In Ibiza

Traffic and parking on Ibiza can be unpredictable. While it might appear that Ibiza would have light traffic due to being an island, tourist season can mean that a moderate number of vehicles are moving around on small roads. If you plan your journey in advance, you should be perfectly fine, as with anywhere else. Parking may be limited to individual spaces in most Ibizan towns. However, some dedicated car parks do exist for use around all of the mainland ferry terminals.
