Driving Information at Gatwick Airport
Like other airports in the UK, parking is expensive at Gatwick Airport. However, drivers can use the Express Pick Up area on Level 0 of Short Stay Car Park 3 at the South Terminal once they have collected their vehicle. If you are dropping off passengers, then use the lower level drop-off zone between the Sofitel Hotel and the multi-storey car park of the North Terminal.
Attractions at Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport has a number of designer shops within the two terminal buildings, so filling your luggage with duty-free shopping is not a challenge. For a bit of history, hope over to the Beehive, the original terminal building on the south side of the airport. Opened in 1936, it didn't last long, as the expansion of the airport in the 1950s required a new, larger terminal. Nonetheless, it was an important part of Gatwick's history, as well as global aviation history, as it was the first fully integrated airport building. While no longer needed for the running of the airport, it has kept its local importance, now being used as office space.
Places to Visit Outside of Gatwick
On a map, the British Isles look small and easily covered, but this is quite misleading. Each square mile of countryside seems to have much more packed into it than would seem possible, and there is something interesting, beautiful or historically noteworthy around almost every corner! For instance, within just half an hour’s drive from Gatwick airport, you could be in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Even closer, a mere five minutes' drive away, is the beautiful historic town of Horley. A little further afield, but still comfortably less than an hour’s drive away, is Chessington Park World of Adventure. Finally, and arguably, having saved the best for last: London. Gatwick is just over an hour’s drive away from the United Kingdom's capital city.
